Kids & Retail

We have all been shopping with or around kids. So we know the tactics they use to target all of the young little geniuses out there. A few of the favorites I have heard:

  • Sugary cereal
  • Characters from popular movies (trolls is the latest one)
  • Toy incentives with food (MCD,BK,Cereals)

The list goes on and on.

Well yesterday I was walking with my daughter around the mall looking for clothes and of course one of the dresses she was looking at was $30 ON SALE!! (what the heck??) Personally for me I would not spend that much on dress even for myself. Especially for my daughter, who is going to grow 3 feet the second I buy it.

So needless to say we agreed to continue looking and made our way to Dillard’s thinking there would be some reasonable sales going on there. WRONG! a shirt on the sale rack for a child was $40.

I work in the mall and help run a small business, so I understand mark-up, overhead, profit, paying people the works. However even with that knowledge what I don’t understand is how a child’s shirt who is going to outgrow it in 3 months could possibly be $40.

So fast forward 20 minutes we are walking past Clair’s and my daughter remembers the oh so important eye mask I told her we could get the next time we were in the mall. We make our way into the brightly colored and strategically placed store, where we are greeted by a young lady behind the desk kindly asks if we would like a basket. I politely decline, mentioning that we a re here for an eye mask and thank her anyway.

As we are browsing around the colorful store the young lady makes her way back around to us, informing Tori and I about the 3 for 3 sale they are having. Of course Tori is very clever and and ask’s what a 3 for 3 sale is. As the young lady is explaining it to her watch as my daughters face lights up. She looks up at me and asks if we can do that so I tell her that we can think about it and proceed to look around.

She now starts looking for other things she would like, and soon enough I’m Trapped!

I could have just said no. I understand that, but she was being so good and I was mentally worn down from figuring out prices and keeping toys straight. So we make our way to the check out stand and I was expecting to spend $25 I could justify that. Oh man was I wrong! $43 later I was the proud owner of 6 items I did not need.

Back downstairs, my daughter is showing Ben her wonderful new purchases and I get the “look” the look of what were you thinking?! We spend about 30 minutes talking it over and looking at prices online, we come to the conclusion that it was spur of the moment and unnecessary. I go talk with Tori and explain it to her and some tears later she agrees and I go to return the items keeping the one thing we went in for.

I felt bad for returning the items I had just purchased for her, But I just fell into what every parent at one time or another. I have learned from working in the mall toy stores are a scam, in fact most stores big chain stores are they care about one thing and no its not your precious little angle or your bank account its your MONEY.

I read this quote on facebook one time and it really stuck with me,

“If you buy a T.V on sale for $300 off and still spend $700, you did not save $300 you spent $700.”

Keep this in mind when shopping for anything it really helps.

If you have stories similar to this please feel free to share I look forward to hearing what you have to say!

30 day Soda Challenge!

So this Sunday, marks my official one month of no soda! Honestly It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I don’t do “New years resolutions” But I did decide that I wanted to go one week without soda. none. zilch. nada.

I figured since I was going from 3-4 sodas a day It would be difficult to quit cold turkey. Much to my surprise it was extremely easy. I just switch from Soda to tea/water. After seeing how easily it was to do the first week I just decided to go another week. From there I just decided to go an entire month!

So 27 days with no soda and I no longer have cravings for it. By this I mean I do not feel like I have to have it to get through the day. Lucky for me I have never been one to hold addictions, so just deciding to stop something is fairly easy for me.

When I first went into this one of my goals was to lose some weight (not that I needed to) My weight on January 2nd 2017 was:

115.8 lbs

muscle mass 48.7

Body fat was 22.9

I will update this post with the final weight in a few days!

With my goal in mind it did make it easier to keep the soda away. I have been getting my weight checked every week to watch the progress even closer and it seems to fluctuate with my clothes, time of day etc but in all honesty so far has stayed pretty close to the same.

Another thing I noticed was I felt considerably less bloated over all and my moods seemed to slightly even out.

Also keeping in mind I decided to do a 30 day workout challenge so I was doing squats, push-ups, sit-ups etc. However had to quit about a week ago do to back injuries. My max squats was 230 in one set which ended up being my downfall.

If you are looking to to try the 30 day no soda challenge I would recommend:

A. Commit, make sure this is something you want to do for yourself. If you slip up no big deal keep going! every one gets a cheat day.

B. Get support, make sure you have a good support group that respect your decision.

C. Try replacing soda slowly with Tea or water if you are a heavy soda drinker. It may help to add flavoring to your water whether it be a natural fruit that you just let infuse your water or just a water flavor juice. (I use black cherry) Every time you feel the urge to drink soda try a flavored water or tea before drinking the soda.

D. Keep a journal for yourself to see your progress.

The first few days are the hardest but it will soon get easier. If you need someone to help support you please feel free to message me and I will do what I can to help you 🙂

Motorcycle, Longboard’s and much more!

Good Evening all!

Welcome to  my first blog. Woohoo!

A little about myself I am 22 (23 in less than a month!), I work at a skateboarding/Motorcycle shop with my boyfriend of three years, and I do traveling sales. My daughters name is Victoria and she turns 6 in about 3 months! Time sure does fly with the little ones.

Some of my hobbies include, motorcycles, long-boarding, reading, Modeling, MMA and of course Netflix!!

Speaking of Netflix, I just finished this pretty intense movie called “Sinister”. Which is about, a family who moves into a house in which a murder was committed. From there on without giving out spoilers things get pretty heavy, it had me jumping a few times.  If you like thrillers and suspense you would love it. The only downside and this could have been my computer screen but it was so dark, I kept thinking the whole time “does he not know what a light is??” Besides that I would give the movie a good 8.5/10!

As of right now I currently ride a ninja 500 (I do not want any crap for this) I love my bike its great since I am just starting out. and by just starting out, I mean you will likely hear of my journey to riding.

The best story I have so far would be I was in the parking lot at a local mall, and I had been working up to riding confidently (Getting the shifting down) which I though I was getting  there, until I shifted from 3rd gear to 2nd gear and dumped the clutch and for anyone who rides, you know what happened. (Wheelie) however I was lucky and was on a 500 which is not really capable of doing wheelies so it was more of a violent jerk. Let’s just say that I had a rude wake up call of my bike telling me I was not ready. So I am slowly working that confidence back up!

Ben, has a ZX14R and I have driven his bike well and with him on the back of course he is making sure I don’t eat shit. However point being I have done it!

Long-boarding, I have been doing for a bit longer, about 3 years to be exact, I enjoy the Loaded Tesseract oh and of course the Jelly Board!! oh man that is a fun board. I don’t do any crazy things like downhill, I do more flat lands and dancing which I am not a pro at either in fact I will drop some pictures of my fun kiss of asphalt! I tried doing a parking garage once and that ended bad..so to say. Long story short I bailed and ninja rolled out thankfully I had no injuries!

Well that is just a little about me! If you have any other questions about me or something you would like me to write about please leave me a comment below!
